A writing revolution

A step of incalculable consequences was taken when men, in the task of fixing and spreading thought, realized that it was possible to substitute the visual image for sound, to place the sound where until the moment he obstinately placed the figure. In this way, the object has completely freed itself from the signal and language has acquired its true nature, which is oral. Analyzing the sound of the words, the man realized that the sound was reduced in units exactly placed more or less independent of each other (as a sound) and clearly differentiable. From here, two types of writing emerge that mark this great and decisive revolution: syllabic writing, which the system bases on groups of sounds represented by a sign, and alphabetic writing, where each sign corresponds to a letter. The second represents, consequently, progress in relation to the first, since it reaches a limit of analysis that it had started. Therefore, we can say that alphabetical writing represents, in relation to syllabic writing, a great advance in the order of ideas, but an invaluable technical simplification.
